If the World Were a Village

If the population of the World were condensed to 100 is the premise of the book If the World Were a Village.

61 Asians***13 Africans***12 Europeans***9 Latin Americans***5 North Americans/Canadians

  • 80 would live in substandard housing
  • 50 would be malnourished
  • 33 would lack access to safe drinking water
  • 1 would have a college education
  • 48 would live on less than $2 a day
  • 20 would live on less than $1 a day

Reading through this book with your family is a great exercise in perspective.  You can talk with one another about the concept of One World and our shared responsibility to care for one another.

Kids in particular can create some amazing artwork in response to this book.
If the World were a Village was written by David J. Smith and illustrated by Shelagh Armstrong.
They also have two additional great resources If American were a Village and This Child Every Child.
